The Fantastic Moment. On the Verge of the Real.
Dašková, Michaela ; Smetana, Matěj (referee) ; Klímová, Barbora (advisor)
In my diploma I continue in the topic which I solved in my theoretical part of diploma. I study that "Fantastical moment" in practise. I am interested in its uprise or creation, in its character in memories of other people and in its evoking. The book is documentation of my collecting work and also of my secret interventions in personal places of my kith and kin which are hardly accesible by spectator. The book (or issue) is set in 4 pieces. In ideal case I would like to edit it in about 100 pieces and distribute it in galerie´s shops. In this way it would be possible to lent it in some chosen places in Brno.
The Gray Man
Haraším, Richard ; Záhora, Zdeněk (referee) ; Vaněk, Vojtěch (advisor)
I focus on developing original digital game The Gray Man in the point & click adventure genre from the position of a indie developer, creating all segments of the game on my own. Primarily by seeking a synthesis of the serial killer personality from first-person view and the gameplay experience, which is mediated by the transfer of 3D space into a 2D closed world where, despite the various limitations of player movement, game mechanics and interactivity by simply clicking the mouse, I strive for a specific design of the main character's movement and associated controls. The main objective of this thesis is to convey these new approaches in interaction with the environment and the theme of the game itself. A parallel goal is also produce a fully playable version of the game.

The diploma thesis deals with the magazine "Širým světem", which was managed by Stanislav Nikolau (1878-1950), a prominent figure in the public life of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Based on a historical analysis of primary sources, placed in context by the study of secondary literature, it completes Nikolau's personality including his views orientation that is based on the ideas of the nationalist right-wing, with a strong anti-Communist orientation, through the leadership of the Czech fascist movement Vlajka to the anti-Semitic rhetoric. The thesis presents his rich activity in the pedagogical, journalistic, and editorial field and does not omit his professional work that was always closely intertwined with geography. However, it is an analysis of the non-fictional periodical "Širým světem. The Geographical Magazine", founded by Nikolau for young readers in 1924 that is the core of the thesis. The magatine's content also corresponded to that − it included adventure stories, short stories and original travel reports that − in addition to the resilience of the human spirit − also reflected the diversity of geographical conditions especially on non-European continents. It continued to develop and change in the context of Nikolau's preferences, reflecting the growing interest of the reading public...
Adventure and Courage in J.R.R. Tolkien´s Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings
FUKA, Vojtěch
The main aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyze the stories of adventure by J.R.R.Tolkien: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The starting point will be an introduction to Tolkien's life and works, including his inspiration by the medieval epic tradition (Beowulf) and contemporary fantasy literature. In this regard, the thesis will draw on Bakhtin's characterization of adventure literature as the stories built around the themes of the journey (the source of adventure) and the trial (tests of courage and strength of character). It will also introduce Tolkien's view of the function of fantasy within fairy tales (escape, consolation, recovery). The actual analysis will focus on the specific aspects of the adventurous journey, as well as on the turning points/crisis moments (trials) and unusual situations, in which the heroes demonstrate their courage or weakness (despair, fear). Attention will be paid to the development of selected characters (Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Peregrin Took, Merry Brandybuck, Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield) with respect to their experience of adventure and their actions (decisions and deeds) at the moments of crisis.

Sedláčková, Tereza ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Horák, Vít (referee)
Bachelor thesis "Workcamp Liminality, or There and Back Again (and the extraordinary experiences that happen in between)" deals with initiation in contemporary society. It elaborates on initiation of transition between childhood and adulthood, which is made possible through the secular rituals of transition. A research on one workcamp is used to analyse this type of initiation. Three-phase concept rites de passage of Arnold van Gennep, focusing on the middle, liminal, stage and its course as described by Victor Turner is used in the analysis. The aim of this paper is to outline some examples of travelling, which may take the form of rites de passage, and through research on one specific workcamp show that it is possible to encounter the liminal and initiating characteristics of travelling there. According to the theories of Victor Turner emergence of communitas is perhaps the clearest indication of liminal stage (or rite de passage and initiation). Turner's understanding of communitas is very important especially for the empirical part of the text. Methodological work is based on participant observation in the field and semi-structured interviews with workcamp participants conducted during the workcamp.
